Biography
Gabriel specialises in commercial litigation and dispute resolution and has over the years, worked with leading law firms in Nigeria, where they established themselves as seasoned courtroom advocates in Nigeria. Annexed as Schedules 1 and 2 to this profile is a summary of Gabriel’s experience as dispute resolution expert.
Experience:
Worked for three (3) topflight law firms in Nigeria between 2005 and 2020, heading the commercial dispute resolution team of a first-tier law firm in Lagos with huge foreign client-base.
- Focuses on providing a result-based approach to resolving very serious commercial and constitutional disputes to a wide range of clients. • A member of the team of lawyers that successfully represented a major oil company in litigation in respect of the Ministerial consent for the acquisition of interest in an oil mining lease in Nigeria. The decision in that case has become a major policy directive and change in the legal regime for acquisition of participating interest in the Nigerian oil and gas sector.

- A member of the team of lawyers that successfully acted for a pioneer independent power company in Nigeria in an arbitration regarding tax waivers and exemptions granted it under a Power Purchase Agreement with the Federal Government of Nigeria.
- Successfully acted for a foreign investor in the power sector in respect of a suit seeking to set aside an arbitral award by the International Chambers of Commerce (ICC).
- Successfully defended a foreign airline in Nigeria in respect of a N3 billion claim for an alleged breach of intellectual property in respect of its use of a Nigerian movie in its inflight entertainment platform.
- Acted as part of a team of lawyers to a foreign oil and gas company operating in Nigeria in respect of its tax compliance issues in several states of the federation. We worked with several State Boards of Inland Revenue and foreign tax experts in resolving the huge tax liabilities of the company.
- Led a team of lawyers that successfully challenged the distrain and sealing off of a company’s premises by the Board of Inland Revenue of one of the Southern States of Nigeria against a company operating in Nigeria.
- Successfully defended a foreign company in respect of several suits brought against it for the alleged breach of the Local Content Act for the award of oil and gas contracts in Nigeria.
- Part of the team that successfully defended a foreign company in a suit by a Nigerian company in respect of the termination of a franchise/licence agreement for the use of its trademark.
- Successfully defended a Nigerian company in suit in respect of the use of trade mark in the security printing business in Nigeria.
